In order to improve household food security for landless families, Empower Girls Plus works in partnership with Women Business Hub to promote the vertical farming technique among girls and their families.  Addressing food security is fundamental in creating an environment where girls can thrive academically and personally. Empower Girls Plus is ensuring that girls have consistent access to nutritious food which at the end will improve their educational outcomes, foster gender equality, and build a foundation for future economic stability and growth. EGPA believes that Food security is crucial for strengthening girls' retention in school because adequate nutrition is vital for their mental growth and development. Malnutrition can lead to health issues that hinder a girl's ability to attend and perform well in school. Proper nutrition supports cognitive function and mental well-being, essential for learning and concentration. Well-nourished students have better concentration, memory, and problem-solving skills, leading to improved academic performance. Sufficient food intake ensures students have the energy to participate actively in school activities. Proper nutrition reduces the likelihood of illnesses that cause school absenteeism. When families are food secure, children are less likely to miss school to work or help with family responsibilities. Food security alleviates the financial burden on families, allowing them to prioritize education over immediate survival needs. In some areas, the lack of food security can lead to early marriages or child labour as coping mechanisms, which often result in girls dropping out of school.  Girls who are food secure can focus on their studies without the distraction of hunger. Ensuring food security can help bridge the gender gap in education by supporting girls to stay in school longer and complete their education. Educated girls are more likely to contribute to the health and well-being of their communities. Education leads to better job opportunities and economic contributions, which can improve the overall food security of a community.
